A man has been accused of raping a 10-year-old girl at his residence at Owode, in the Ajah area of Lagos.
Samuel Akpan, the 28-year-old accused, reportedly lured the teenager into his room and raped her. The pain suffered by the victim led her to report the incident to her mother, who decided to lodge a complaint with the police.
Akpan was arrested and subsequently arraigned before the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for defilement. The prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, said Akpan committed the crime on June 2.
“The girl, who could not bear the pain, told her mother who now reported at the station that the accused defiled her daughter sometime in March,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Akpan pleaded not guilty, and was granted a bail of N500, 000 by the presiding magistrate Folakemi Davies-Abegunde.
He is also to produce two sureties in like sum while the case was adjourned till July 10 for mention.
