Leo Mezie’s Death: He was enjoying the money he was making from his illness – Actress Chioma Toplis
Nollywood actress Chioma Toplis who first broke the sad news of the death of her colleague, Leo Mezie, has shed more light on his death after netizens dragged the Actors Guild Of Nigeria (AGN) for failing to come to the actor’s rescue
On Monday, Chioma Toplis took to her Instagram account to inform Leo Mezie’s friends and fans of the thespian’s death. She said the actor died while recovering from a kidney transplant. She further revealed that his body has been moved to his hometown in Umuahia, Abia State.
Several Nollywood stars who were heartbroken about the sad news took to social media to mourn the deceased, however, critics lashed out at them for not helping the actor with his treatment when he was alive and for crying ‘crocodile tears’ after his death
Reacting to the backlash, Chioma alleged that in 2016, Leo Mezie announced that he needed money to undergo a kidney transplant in London and the Nollywood industry including a certain Apostle donated a huge sum of money to him. She said after collecting the money, Leo traveled to London with his wife and returned after some time without undergoing the surgery.
She added that he told everyone including the apostle that the doctors in London confirmed that he was healed and had no need for a kidney transplant.
Narrating further, Chioma Toplis said news broke out through Chioma Okoye Foundation that the actor was ill again and needed money for a kidney transplant, and several people in the movie industry including the AGN president donated money for his treatment through the foundation.
She alleged that it became clear that Mezie was enjoying the money he was making from his illness when he started fighting the foundation to send all the money donated for his treatment into his personal account. And at this point, several people lost interest in his case.
