The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, at a meeting with LP members elected into the National Assembly in the 2023 general elections in Abuja, disclosed the LP will refund the N25 million nomination fee to the family of a demised governorship aspirant in Imo State, Humphrey Anumudu.
The deceased purchased the LP nomination form for the primary election towards the November 11 governorship election in Imo State. He died last week.
Abure explained that the Labour Party resolved to refund the nomination fee paid by the deceased to the family for empathy and compassion, noting that LP stands for these values.
“You will recall that one of our aspirants in Imo State lost his life. I am pleased to announce to members of the public and members of the Labour Party family and his immediate family that the party will refund the nomination fee of N25 million that he spent.
“We feel that we need to do this the support the family and show leadership of compassion, of empathy and that is what the Labour Party stands for,” the LP National Chairman declared in a media interaction in Abuja.
The LP is yet to conduct the primary election for the nomination of its candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Imo State before the death of the aspirant.
