Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh, sees the Rivers Hoopers’ historic third-place finish at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) as a catalyst for the nation’s basketball future.

Enoh expressed his optimism upon receiving the team in Lagos after their groundbreaking performance at the BAL.

The Hoopers secured the first-ever BAL bronze medal for a Nigerian team by defeating South Africa’s Cape Town Tigers 80-57.

While their dream run was halted by Al-Ahly Benghazi in the semi-finals, the Hoopers bounced back with a dominant display against the Tigers, etching their names in BAL history. Their coach, Ogoh Odaudu, was also recognized as the competition’s Coach of the Year.

“This is a monumental achievement,” declared Enoh. “We’ve secured our first BAL bronze, reached the top three, and the future of Nigerian basketball is brighter than ever.”

“The Hoopers’ success exemplifies that sports development is a collaborative effort,” stated the Minister. “Rivers State has showcased the immense potential within each state to contribute to our national sporting glory.
