Morocco’s World Cup win sparks celebrations, arrests in Netherlands
Morocco’s dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup sparked jubilant celebrations in The Hague on Tuesday but also led to clashes with police and several arrests.
Fans gathered in the Schilderswijk district, home to a large Moroccan community, waving Moroccan flags, dancing in the streets, sounding car horns and setting off fireworks to celebrate the victory.

The celebrations later turned chaotic when riot police moved in to disperse the crowd, using water cannons and batons. Several people were arrested after clashes with officers, although authorities reported no major property damage.
The Round of 32 encounter in Monterrey ended 1-1 after extra time before Morocco triumphed in the penalty shootout. PSV Eindhoven forward Ismael Saibari converted the decisive spot-kick to send Morocco into the Round of 16, where they will face co-hosts Canada.
