Mother arrested after 17-year-old daughter dies following alleged assault in Ogun
A 45-year-old woman, identified as Kafayat Lawal, has been arrested in Ogun State following the death of her 17-year-old daughter, Ayomide Adekoya, after an alleged assault at their residence in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area.
According to reports, Lawal had been separated from her husband for about nine years and lived with her two daughters, Blessing and Ayomide.
The incident reportedly occurred after the recent Sallah celebration when the two sisters allegedly left home to spend time with their respective boyfriends.
They later returned home, prompting their mother to become angry and reportedly attempt to punish them. However, people around the family were said to have intervened and pleaded with her to spare the girls.
The following day, the two teenagers reportedly left home again and spent the night outside.

Their absence allegedly further angered their mother. Upon their return, Lawal reportedly locked the girls inside a room and assaulted them.
The situation allegedly escalated when she picked up a bottle and stabbed the girls during the incident.
Ayomide, 17, reportedly sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
She, however, died while receiving medical attention.
Following the incident, Lawal was arrested by the authorities and is expected to face investigation over the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death.
The incident has sparked concern over domestic violence and the need for families to seek peaceful ways of resolving conflicts involving young people.
