MTN Nigeria champions local talent, Reports over 99% Nigerian workforce
MTN Nigeria’s 2024 People Report reveals that over 99% of its permanent workforce comprises Nigerian citizens, underscoring the company’s strong commitment to local capacity development and national representation.
MTN Nigeria has unequivocally reaffirmed its dedication to fostering local capacity development, as highlighted in its recently released 2024 People Report.
The report proudly reveals that more than 99 percent of the company’s permanent workforce is composed of Nigerian citizens, a significant indicator of its localization strategy.
Out of MTN Nigeria’s 1,847 full-time employees, virtually all are drawn from within the country. This commitment to indigenous talent extends to leadership roles, with 93 percent of its Executive Management Board also being Nigerian nationals.
The report underscores a deliberate push towards nationwide equity in hiring and career advancement, noting that the company’s leadership is geographically spread across all six geopolitical zones.
This strategic shift represents a marked departure from previous years, when key positions within Nigeria’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector were predominantly held by expatriates.
Today, MTN stands as a prime example of how localization strategies can simultaneously bolster internal performance and contribute significantly to broader national objectives.
The emphasis on homegrown talent not only strengthens organizational trust and communication but also cultivates long-term industry capacity through effective knowledge transfer and strategic mentorship.
MTN Nigeria’s achievement is reflective of a wider, encouraging trend within Nigeria’s dynamic ICT ecosystem. Other prominent industry leaders, including Airtel, Interswitch, and Flutterwave, have similarly moved to elevate indigenous professionals into senior leadership positions.

This industry-wide movement aligns strongly with the Federal Government’s ICT Local Content Policy and is further bolstered by transformative initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, designed to cultivate a new generation of skilled technology professionals.
Analysts believe that this localized approach to workforce development will be instrumental in positioning Nigeria as a leading regional technology hub and in diminishing reliance on foreign expertise.
As Nigeria continues its ambitious digital transformation journey, the profound emphasis on indigenous talent development not only exemplifies corporate responsibility but also speaks directly to national resilience in an increasingly rapidly evolving global technology landscape.
