Kwankwasiyya dismisses reports of Kwankwaso’s exit from NDC
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed widespread reports suggesting that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following an alleged dispute over the party’s candidates’ list.
The movement described the reports as false, misleading, and aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the party, insisting that Kwankwaso remains firmly committed to the NDC and has never discussed the possibility of leaving the party.
Speaking on behalf of the movement, spokesman Habeeb Saleh Mohammed rejected claims circulating on social media that the former Kano State governor was threatening to withdraw his political structure from the party.
“There was never a time when it was discussed that our party leader was leaving the party. That is our position,” Mohammed stated.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation that tensions had emerged between the Kwankwasiyya camp and the national leadership of the NDC over the selection of candidates for upcoming elections.
Reports circulating online had alleged that some candidates submitted by the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State were replaced by the party’s national leadership, leading to dissatisfaction among supporters of the former presidential candidate.

The alleged disagreement was also linked to efforts to implement a reported 60/40 power-sharing arrangement within the party, a development that some observers claimed had created friction among stakeholders.
However, Mohammed dismissed such narratives, maintaining that the movement followed all legal and procedural requirements during its candidate selection process.
According to him, the party successfully conducted its primaries nationwide in accordance with the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“According to the law and the INEC timetable, we conducted our primaries on the 29th of last month across the nation. Before that date, there were processes that led to consensus, and candidates emerged for each position. There were no complaints from any segment of party members or contestants,” he said.
He explained that the primaries were conducted peacefully and transparently, with consensus candidates emerging through consultations and internal party processes. The outcomes, he noted, were subsequently forwarded to the party’s leadership for further administrative action.
Mohammed stressed that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remains united and focused on its political objectives, despite what he described as attempts by certain individuals to sow discord through unverified social media reports.
He urged party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the rumours, emphasizing that Kwankwaso and his political associates remain committed to the NDC and its goals.
The reports, which gained traction on social media on Monday, had claimed that Kwankwaso—described as the party’s vice-presidential candidate—was considering an exit from the NDC over the alleged rejection of a list of consensus candidates from Kano State.
The denial is expected to calm concerns among party supporters and reinforce the perception of unity within the Kwankwasiyya Movement as political activities continue to intensify ahead of future electoral contests.
Political analysts note that Kwankwaso remains one of the most influential political figures in northern Nigeria, making any speculation about his political future a subject of significant interest within the country’s evolving political landscape.
