Dickson, Kwankwaso move to resolve Kano Party disputes, strengthen opposition coalition
Former Bayelsa State Governor and leading figure in the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has disclosed that his recent meeting with former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, focused on addressing internal disagreements within the party in Kano State and reinforcing unity among members ahead of future political contests.
Dickson made the disclosure in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday after holding talks with Kwankwaso and other senior NDC officials at the former Kano governor’s residence.
According to Dickson, the meeting formed part of ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at fostering understanding and cooperation between party stakeholders in Kano State and Kwankwaso, whom he described as the party’s leader in the state as well as its vice-presidential candidate.
The former senator explained that the intervention was designed to strengthen internal cohesion within the NDC and ensure that party members remained united despite emerging differences arising from the party’s rapid growth.
He noted that the NDC was increasingly establishing itself as a major opposition platform in Nigeria, attracting support from various political groups, activists, and stakeholders across the country.
While acknowledging that disagreements were inevitable in any expanding political movement, Dickson stressed that the party was committed to resolving disputes through dialogue, consultation, and reconciliation rather than allowing divisions to weaken its structures.
He expressed confidence that the engagement with Kwankwaso would help deepen cooperation among party leaders and supporters in Kano State and contribute to the party’s broader objective of building a formidable political force ahead of future elections.
Beyond addressing internal issues, Dickson highlighted the strategic importance of grassroots support groups affiliated with the party, particularly the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the Obidient Movement, describing them as valuable mobilization platforms capable of strengthening the NDC’s nationwide presence.

He revealed that discussions were ongoing to formally integrate members of both movements into the party’s activities and organizational framework across the country.
Dickson disclosed that he had earlier received a courtesy delegation from the Obidient Movement and assured its members that they would be accommodated within the party structure at different levels. He added that similar efforts were being made to incorporate members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement, the Obidient Movement and other support groups remain valuable mobilization networks. I had earlier received a courtesy delegation some weeks ago from the Obidient Movement and promised to ensure their integration into the activities of our party at various levels across the country. The same applies to the Kwankwasiyya Movement, whose coordinators have been asked to forward their details to the party for the same purpose. This process will be undertaken in a structured and orderly manner,” Dickson stated.
Political observers view the outreach to the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient movements as part of a wider strategy by the NDC to consolidate opposition forces and build a broad-based coalition capable of mounting a strong challenge in future elections.
Dickson reiterated that the integration process would be conducted transparently and systematically to ensure all support groups are effectively represented within the party’s structure.
The meeting between Dickson and Kwankwaso is being regarded as a significant step toward strengthening internal unity, expanding the NDC’s support base, and positioning the party as a major player in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
