Ndume rejects amnesty for bandits
Senator Ali Ndume, Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, representing Borno South, at the Correspondents Chapel Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT, Abuja, expressed strong opposition to the proposal and demand by an Islamic teacher, Sheik Abubakar Gumi, for granting of amnesty to bandits, as a condition for peace.
The senator argued that granting amnesty to the serial killers and destroyers of property will stimulate more havoc in the country.
Ndume lamented that the military poorly funded to acquire sophisticated weapons for the war against the bandits and the Boko Haram terrorists and defend the nation from insecurity.
The senator urged the federal government to prioritize the nation’s security to reduce the deepening security challenges in Nigeria. he stated that the Federal Government should stop sending the military to foreign countries for training but invite the experts to come into the country to impart their expertise on the security operatives to save funds.
Ndume, however, praised the military for the commitment to secure the country.
