Ngige afraid of IPOB, ritual killers, alerts oil magnates, rich Nigerians
Labour Minister Chris Ngige has lamented that he and other members of the Nigerian elite are in danger, considering the height of insecurity in Nigeria.
The minister made the remark while urging employers of labour to provide decent jobs for workers in the country or face severe consequences.
In a statement signed by Charles Akpan, the deputy director, press and public relations in the ministry, the minister said lack of jobs is responsible for the high rate of insecurity in the country.
Apart from terrorism and banditry rocking the north, IPOB, Odua secessionist agitations, kidnapping, and ritual killing are pummelling the south. Moreover, the October 20 Endsars protest in Lagos eventually targeted APC strongman Bola Tinubu and his investments.
Nigige expressed his own fear at a meeting with leaders of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, and the National Pension Commission, PENCOM.
“The elites in Nigeria are in danger, including me and all of us.
“Hence, the sooner we start talking to elites in organisations like yours (IPMAN), the better. So, we can curb this malady and prevent it from escalating.
“When you refer to the nexus between job vulnerability and insecurity, you hit the nail on the head.
“A lot of insecurity problems we have today is caused by unemployment and underemployment.”
