NIMC rolls out real-time whatsApp support for NIN users
The National Identity Management Commission has introduced new digital support platforms, including a dedicated WhatsApp channel and a Live Chat feature, to improve access to National Identification Number (NIN) services across the country.
The commission said the initiative is aimed at providing real-time support for NIN-related enquiries while reducing congestion at physical enrolment centres nationwide.
In a statement issued by the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the agency said the platforms form part of ongoing reforms being implemented under the leadership of the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote.
According to the commission, the new digital channels are expected to provide faster responses to enquiries relating to NIN registration, modification, and validation services. The agency added that the platforms would also improve accessibility for Nigerians and legal residents living both within and outside the country.
NIMC noted that the development would help ease operational pressure on its offices by allowing staff to focus more on complex enrolment and identity management processes.
The commission announced that citizens can access the Live Chat feature through its official website, NIMC Official Website, while WhatsApp support is available via +234 701 566 6971.
The agency warned Nigerians against engaging with unverified individuals or third-party websites claiming to represent the commission, stressing that such platforms could expose users to fraud and identity theft.
NIMC further stated that the introduction of the digital support channels aligns with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which focuses on improving public sector efficiency and expanding access to government services through technology-driven solutions.
The commission added that as the NIN continues to play a critical role in banking, telecommunications, and social service administration, the new support system is expected to enhance service delivery and strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s identity management framework.
