NiMet predicts dust haze weather, reduced visibility on Thursday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted dust haze weather conditions over the central states of the country on Thursday.
The predictions are contained in the Weather Outlook issued by NiMet’s Central Forecast Office (CFO) on Wednesday in Abuja.
It added that Abuja, Bida and Minna would experience reduced visibility of between two and five kilometres, except Lafia, with night-time temperature of between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius.
NiMet also predicted visibility values over Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Oshogbo, Ibadan and Akure of between two and five kilometres, with night-time temperature of between 13 and 20 degrees Celsius.
The NiMet prediction also indicated that Northern states would generally experience dust haze conditions in moderate visibility of about two and four kilometres, especially over Maiduguri, Potiskum, Kano, Nguru, Yola and environs.
The prediction added that Katsina and environ were likely to have visibility less than 1000m night-time temperature range between 8 to 15 degrees Celsius during the forecast period.
According to the agency, fresh dust is raised in Chad Republic and it is expected to be adverted into the country through the northeast on Wednesday morning.
“The dust will further reduce horizontal visibility in the Country especially in the north.
“During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry and windy. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks.
“Flight operations may be disrupted due to poor visibility in some airports across the country,’’ NiMet predicted.’’
