No VAR for part of Man Utd’s game at Ipswich

A fire alarm at Stockley Park caused a temporary VAR outage during Manchester United’s match at Ipswich Town, with the system down during the first half when both teams scored.

Manchester United’s match against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday was temporarily affected by a lack of VAR during the first half.The system was not down when Marcus Rashford and was down when Omari Hutchinson scored for their respective teams.

VAR was reinstated for the second half, but the reason behind the delay was linked to a fire alarm at Stockley Park, the Premier League’s VAR hub.

Referee Anthony Taylor informed both team captains, Sam Morsy and Bruno Fernandes, along with managers Ruben Amorim and Kieran McKenna, about the issue.

Notably, Ipswich’s goal occurred during the period when VAR was unavailable.

VAR, which was introduced in the Premier League for the 2019-2020 season, has faced criticism since its implementation, but this interruption was due to an external factor.

After this match, Ipswich will face Nottingham Forest away next Saturday, while Manchester United will host Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday.
