NYSC gifts family of late corp member in Abia, 1m
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has presented a cheque of N1 million as death benefit to the family of late corps member, Mr Chikwado Ezururike in Abia.
The cheque, which is the insurance cover, was presented to the family at the NYSC Abia Secretariat in Umuahia on Wednesday.
The National Daily reports that Ezururike and four others lost their lives on their way from Uyo in Akwa Ibom to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kastina State.
Ezuruike, a graduate of History and International Studies of the University of Uyo and the four others, were involved in the auto crash along Abuja-Kwali expressway on July 28.
Mr Emmanuel Ayeniko, the Assistant Director (Insurance), NYSC Headquarters, Abuja, presented the cheque to the deceased family on behalf of the Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim.
While presenting the cheque, Ayeniko condoled with the family and said, “We know that this amount cannot replace lost life, but it is a token to say we feel with you.”
He said that NYSC official was also in Uyo to present the insurance benefits to other deceased families, who hailed from Akwa Ibom. Ezuruike hailed from Imo, but his family resides in Aba, Abia.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the family, Mr Albert Ezuruike, the eldest child, thanked the NYSC and the director-general for the kind gesture and show of love.
“NYSC has been supportive. We didn’t expect this. This shows that there is still hope,” he said.
Mr Denis Jingi, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Abia, commended the director-general for the speed in processing the benefit.
He said that the action was a demonstration of the director-general’s passion for corps members’ welfare.
He said that he and other NYSC officials had earlier paid a condolence visit to the family in Aba, following the director-general’s directive.
