NYSC DG urges corps members to embrace responsible social media use

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has called upon the 2025 Batch ‘A’ (Stream I) corps members to wield the power of social media with responsibility, emphasizing its potential for positive contributions to Nigeria’s growth.

During his visit to the temporary orientation camp at Government College, Kurmi Marshi, Kaduna, Brig-Gen Nafiu stressed the significance of digital citizenship. “Make good content, don’t insult anybody.

Use social media to interact, entertain, and even work—but always responsibly,” he advised the assembled youths.

The Director General also lauded the NYSC scheme as a crucial initiative for national unity, highlighting its success in fostering connections across religious, tribal, and ethnic lines.

He credited the vision of General Yakubu Gowon for the establishment of the program, which he stated nurtures the spirit of “One Nigeria.”

Brig-Gen Nafiu commended the corps members for their demonstrated discipline and expressed his appreciation to the Kaduna State Government for their supportive role as hosts.

He noted ongoing efforts to establish a permanent orientation camp in the state and pledged to address the concerns regarding current camp facilities raised by the State Coordinator.

Furthermore, he underscored the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, encouraging the corps members to actively participate in it as a pathway to self-sufficiency.

In his concluding remarks, the Director General encouraged the young graduates to recognize the privilege of receiving a N77,000 monthly allowance and urged them to reciprocate this by making meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement during their service year.
