Obasanjo applauds Adeleke’s developmental strides in Osogbo, highlights Osun’s role in Yoruba heritage
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Osun State Governor, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, for his transformative efforts in Osogbo, the state capital.
The elder statesman made these remarks during a two-day visit to the state, which included the inauguration of the newly reconstructed 2.7km Garage Junction-Okefia-Lameco road on Tuesday.
Obasanjo, speaking during the ceremony, emphasized the historical and cultural significance of Osun State, particularly Osogbo and Ile-Ife, as crucial to the Yoruba heritage both in Nigeria and the Diaspora.
“The development in Osogbo, Ife, Ede, Ilesa, Ikire, and other areas is not just for the people of Osun but for the entire Yoruba race globally. Ile-Ife, the cradle of the Yoruba civilization, is in Osun State, and its development is vital to Yoruba people everywhere,” Obasanjo remarked.
He urged Governor Adeleke to focus on elevating the state, praising him for surpassing expectations within two years of governance.

“The governor has silenced critics. He has shown that he is not just a talented dancer but also an excellent performer in governance,” he added.
Governor Adeleke, visibly elated, reiterated his administration’s commitment to economic revival through infrastructural development.
He assured citizens that projects like the Garage Junction-Okefia-Lameco road would drive economic growth and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The road inauguration ceremony drew large crowds, temporarily halting commercial activities in the area. Dignitaries, including National Assembly members, traditional rulers, and other notable figures, attended the event, underscoring its significance.

Obasanjo prayed for Chief Lawal’s continued health and longevity, acknowledging his contributions to society.
The visit further highlighted the former president’s commitment to recognizing the roles of individuals who have positively impacted their communities.
Obasanjo’s visit and remarks have been widely lauded, with many praising his recognition of Osun State’s growing importance under Governor Adeleke’s leadership.
