Obasanjo discusses xenophobia killing with President Ramaphosa during visit to South Africa

Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo, has visited the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Dr, Obasanjo, during the visit, raised the issue of xenophobia killings by South African citizens of other nationals resident in the country. The former Nigerian President, however, presented the latest book he co-authored – “Democracy Works: Rewiring Politics to Africa’s Advantage” – to the President of South Africa.

President Ramaphosa had commended former President Obasanjo for his hard work and ability to continue writing and contributing to current debates on development challenges in Africa.

Thereafter, Obasanjo and Ramophosa reflected on recent xenophobia uprising in South Africa which culminated into the killing of many Africans resident in South Africa and the forceful evacuation of over 400 Nigerians, including hundreds of other Africans from the country.

Presidential spokeswoman, Khusela Diko, was said to have in a statement indicated that former President Obasanjo expressed his sincere appreciation of President Ramaphosa’s recent appointment of a team of Special Envoys who have in the past few days visited a number of fellow African countries to deliver a message from the President regarding the incident of violence against foreign nationals in South Africa during the xenophobia uprising.
