Ogun Police Refute Reports of Cult Violence in Abeokuta
The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed an online report alleging that suspected cultists attacked several communities in Abeokuta, killing at least two people.
The report, which claimed rival cult clashes occurred in Aregbe, Somorin, Anobi and Alogi areas, was described by the police as false and misleading.
In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the publication was “fabricated” and “riddled with inaccuracies,” stressing that it was designed to cause panic.
“Ordinarily, the Command would not dignify such attention-seeking and unprofessional bloggers with a response. However, it is imperative to set the record straight to prevent misinformation and unnecessary fear in our communities,” the statement read.
Odutola noted that cult-related activities in Ogun State had significantly reduced due to intelligence-driven policing, community engagement, and proactive security measures. She added that over 22 suspected cultists had recently been arrested in coordinated operations, while this year, July 7th 2025, the date of the Neo Black Movement anniversary passed without incident owing to heightened police presence.
She further disclosed that several offenders had been prosecuted and jailed, with traditional rulers and stakeholders commending the police for restoring peace.
“The Ogun State Police Command urges residents to disregard this fabricated tale of widespread cult violence. Such alarmist reports are not only false but also inimical to public peace. The Command remains committed to the protection of lives and property across Ogun State,” Odutola assured
