The attention of the Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has been drawn to the unfortunate incident which occurred Saturdays  at the burial of the late Ter Ukum, His Royal Highness Chief Daniel Dzahan where some youths disrupted the event.

The Governor has also been informed that some of the youths reportedly prevented the immediate past Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Suswam and Governor Ortom’s representative, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. James Anbua from speaking at the burial.

Governor Ortom condemns the sad incident in very strong terms as he has always preached peace and harmony in all parts of the state as demonstrated by the amnesty programme of his administration.

He recalls that the late Chief Dzahan was a peaceful man who loved and cared for his people. It is therefore unacceptable that some persons would wilfully disrupt his burial.

Governor Ortom wishes to place on record that he at no time directed anyone or group of persons to cause a mob action at the burial or prevent Dr. Suswam from addressing the people.

As a former Governor of the State, Dr. Gabriel Suswam has the right to speak at events in the state at anytime, in person or by representation which he has been doing without hindrance.

Governor Ortom urges youths to shun acts of violence and avoid being used as thugs and engage in meaningful ventures in line with the present administration’s development agenda.

He reassures the people of the state that his administration will continue to give priority to the security of lives and property.
