Oyo 2019: Fresh trouble for Ajimobi as Buhari clears Shittu to contest for governor
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo Sate may be waiting for fireworks over the 2019 governorship election in the state as President Muhammadu Buhari clears Adebayo Shittu, Minister of communications, to contest the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State in the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shittu received the President’s approval in a letter dated August 27, 2018, signed by Buhari.
The approval letter read in part: “I have today received your letter notifying me of your intention to contest for the governorship seat of Oyo State in the 2019 general elections.
“I note with passion your past contributions to our great party APC during and after the 2015 elections.
“As you are aware, I am totally committed to free and fair elections. Our policy is to support all APC candidates. I wish you well in you ambition to be governor of your state.”
Buhari commended Shittu for his contributions to the government during his service as a minister his administration.
The Communications Minister had written President Buhari requesting his approval of his intention to contest the 2109 governorship election in Oyo State.
Shittu will be contesting the APC ticket I Oyo State with 14 other governorship aspirants in a heated political atmosphere where he is at loggerhead with Governor Ajimobi.
