OYRTMA condemns one-way tricycle crash that injured pedestrian in Ibadan
The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has strongly condemned a recent case of reckless driving by a tricycle operator who drove against traffic in Ibadan, causing a serious accident that left a pedestrian, Mr. Oladayo Adisa, severely injured.
The incident occurred Thursday morning near a petrol station when the tricycle, reportedly speeding and driving one-way, struck the unsuspecting pedestrian as he attempted to cross the road.
In a press statement issued on Sunday by OYRTMA Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (rtd.), the authority decried the rising trend of one-way violations and called the incident an avoidable tragedy resulting from flagrant disregard for traffic laws.
“Mr. Adisa was caught off guard and sustained severe facial injuries due to the recklessness of the tricycle rider,” said Adesagba. “Such dangerous road habits will not be tolerated. The government remains committed to enforcing traffic regulations rigorously to protect lives.”
According to eyewitness accounts, the tricycle rider showed no remorse and claimed he lacked the financial capacity to assist the injured victim. Fortunately, OYRTMA officers and the petrol station manager who witnessed the incident quickly intervened, transporting Mr. Adisa to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Upon regaining consciousness, the injured Mr. Adisa expressed gratitude for the swift intervention, urging OYRTMA to pursue violators more aggressively.
“If OYRTMA catches any rider taking one-way, they should not release them until they are prosecuted in court,” he stated.
In a separate traffic incident at Agbarigo, Mokola, a TVS motorcycle with registration number LUY 306 UT was involved in a fatal crash, resulting in one death and two injuries.

OYRTMA’s rescue team promptly responded to the emergency, conveying the victims to the Oyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, for medical care.
During the operation, the officers recovered the victims’ personal belongings, including a bag containing a substantial sum of money, which was subsequently returned to the victims’ family — a gesture that underscores the agency’s commitment to integrity and public service.
Major Adesagba praised the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde for its continued support of traffic safety initiatives and pledged OYRTMA’s full backing for efforts to curb road lawlessness.
“We appreciate the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. OYRTMA will not relent in holding violators accountable,” he said.
He concluded by urging motorists and road users to cooperate with traffic officers and adhere strictly to road regulations to prevent further tragedies.
“Together, through shared responsibility and collaboration, we can make our roads safer for all,” he affirmed.
