Plateau Group faults APC LG Chairmen over suspension
- Accused them of mocking Plateau grave
- As suspended Chairmen lauds IGP
A group under the aegis of Arewa Christians and Indigenous Pastors (ACIPA), has accused the sacked All Progressive Congress (APC), Chairmen for mocking those that were gruesomely murdered in various communities of Plateau State by their actions in taken up the fight of resisting to vacate office instead of joining the Plateau people to mourn their dead.
Recall that since April 2023, suspected Fulani militia has attacked communities in Mangu LGA, Riyom, Barkin Ladi , Jol and Kwi, killing over 200 people.
Speaking with journalists at the weekend, Chairman of ACIPA, Rev. Luke Shehu noted with disappointment that the APC Chairmen are joining issues with Governor Caleb Muftwang who removed them from office rather than looking for ways in bringing justice to the families that have lost their loved ones.
According to him: “Unfortunately, rather than knowing that this is a time of mourning, hope and assurance of restoring Plateau, the sacked local government Chairmen chose to resist the due legislative process that released them of the position they clearly occupied questionably as cronies under the former governor, Simon Lalong”, Shehu said.
He added that while ACIPA, the Mwaghavul (Mangu), nation and Plateau indigenes are mourning the loss of loved one’s, rather than allow common sense prevail, the ousted APC LG Chairmen and their sponsors chose the path of revolt and anarchy in resisting the due process of their removal and smooth democratic process of replacing them with newly appointed local government Caretaker Committee.
“We call on the recently appointed LG Caretaker Committee Chairmen to resist the temptation of being dragged further into the mud after the decimal failure of the APC government under Lalong and the evident failure and lack of performance of the LG Chairmen at the grassroots.
“We equally call on the federal government and the Inspector General of Police to immediately allow the rule of law and democratic process to prevail rather than sealing the 17 LG secretariats, to assuage the ego of the past failed government”, he warned
However, the suspended APC LG Chairmen have applauded the decision of the IGP over the sealing of the 17 Secretariats across the State till further notice.
The Chairmen said the move has helped in dousing tension in the State.
They argued that as duly elected Chairmen, the Governor, Caleb Muftwang will only be promoting anarchy in Plateau by trying to unroot democracy.
The Chairmen said if not for the quick intervention of the IGP, the State would have been turned to a banana Island.
Speaking to the embattled Chairman of Riyom LGA, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson, said he is more interested in protecting the lives and properties of his people from Fulani militias, and has taken steps to write the top security hierarchies for more deployment of troops to Riyom.
He said the effort has just recently yielded results as the IGP and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army has deployed more troops to the area.
“This is for me, the most important achievement rather than dwell on the illegality Governor Muftwang is trying to perpetrate”, Gwallson said.
