Police arrest suspected gunrunner, recover 3 AK-47 in Delta
The Police Command in Delta State has arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered three AK-47 rifles along with 3,120 rounds of ammunition.
The arrest took place on March 3, and the suspect, identified as a 55-year-old man, was detained by operatives of the command attached to Dragon 14.
The police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on Monday in Warri.
The suspect was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation on the Warri/Benin highway near Western Delta University, Oghara, in the Ethiope West Local Government Area.
According to Edafe, the suspect’s Toyota Camry raised the police’s suspicion due to the unusually small trunk.

“When asked to open the trunk of the vehicle, the police operatives noticed that the trunk appeared unusually small, raising suspicions that the car might have been modified for illicit purposes,” Edafe explained.
“Upon removing the vehicle’s seat, three AK-47 rifles, 2,080 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition, and 1,040 rounds of 51mm ammunition were discovered, concealed in four boxes.”
The police spokesperson stated that both the suspect and the recovered items are currently in police custody, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
