Police uncover Indian hemp farm in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command has disclosed the discovery of a large expanse of farm land planted with Indian hemp. The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement in Abeokuta, indicated that seven persons were arrested on the farmland. The police identified the arrested persons as Nelson Enu, Patrick Emmanuel, Samuel Paul, Ekioya Joe, Monday Okoro, Endurance Eliobe and Stanley Ogejiagba.
Policemen at Isara divisional headquarters had received credible intelligence on the illicit farm that led to the security operations.
The police stated that the intelligence at their disposal also revealed that the Indian hemp farmers were threatening the lives of residents of the community who dare to expose them while they were planting hemp.
The DPO of Isara Division, CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin, had mobilised his men in conjunction with local vigilante on receiving the information, and moved to the farmland where the seven suspects were arrested.
The police said that five bags of suspected Indian hemp seeds were recovered from them, while two bags had already been planted.
The PPRO emphasized that the Commissioner Of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for onward transfer to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
