President 2023: Osinbajo, Tinubu, set for showdown over APC ticket
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday were on the final stage for the battle for the 2023 presidential ticket of the ruing APC. Both presidential aspirants for the APC ticket, through their representatives, submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms for the APC primary for the nomination of the party’s presidential candidate, signaling their readiness for showdown to outweigh the other for victory.
The APC leadership had extended the deadline for the submission of expression of interest and nomination forms to Friday.
Submitting the forms at the APC national secretariat, Abuja, Vice President Osinbajo was represented by the Senate Committee Chairman on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator Kabiru Gaya, from Kano State; while Tinubu was represented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal. Three other presidential aspirants, who include Senator Ibikunle Amosun, former Governor of Ogun State; Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole, former Speaker of the House of Representatives; and Pastor, Tunde Bakare of the Later Rain Assembly, also submitted their forms on Wednesday. Southwest APC members have shown that they are in the frontline of the contest for APC presidential ticket for the 2023 elections.
Tinubu is sailing the political boat through the APC Lagos State, as his home base; as Osinbajo is floating on the political vessel of Ogun State APC, where he revalidated his party membership.
