The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointments of Miller Gajere Dantawaye and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin as the substantive Commissioners of Police for Kogi and Edo States, respectively.
The announcement was made on Thursday, January 16, 2025, by the Commission, with the appointments set to take effect following the impending retirements of the current Commissioners.
The outgoing Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, CP Chukwuka Bertrand Onuoha, is due to retire on January 22, 2025, while CP Peter Umoru, the current Commissioner for Edo State, will retire on January 25, 2025.
CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, who will take over the Kogi State Command, brings a wealth of experience from a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force.
He has previously held positions such as: Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Operations, FCT Police Command; Assistant Commissioner, Field Studies at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano; Area Commander, Karewa, Adamawa State Police Command; Assistant Commissioner, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Oyo State Command; AC Admin, Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Abuja; Area Commander, Area ‘H’, Ogudu, Lagos State; Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Operations, Yobe and Edo State Police Commands and Commissioner of Police, Information Technology, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, the new Commissioner for Edo State, has also had an illustrious career, starting with the Bauchi State Command.
Her extensive service record includes roles such as: Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Plateau and Edo Commands; Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Administration, Kebbi State Command; ACP, Nigeria Ports Authority, Western Port, Lagos State; Area Commander in Eleme, Rivers State, and Mbaitoli, Imo State and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Administration in Zone 13, Dunukofia, Anambra State, and Zone 5, Benin, Edo State.

DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd.), Chairman of the PSC, urged the newly appointed Commissioners to prioritize improving security in their respective states.
He emphasized the importance of dedication and commitment to the service of the nation, stating, “You must settle into your new roles quickly and address the security challenges in Kogi and Edo States. The Commission will monitor your performance and provide the necessary support to help you succeed.”
The appointments have been formally communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation. The letter of approval was signed by Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Police Service Commission.
Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations for the PSC, reiterated the Commission’s dedication to fostering effective leadership in the police force. He assured Nigerians that the appointments are part of the Commission’s broader strategy to enhance security and law enforcement across the country.
