This season, Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso claims he has stopped kneeling before games because it has become too common. Instead, the left-back said that he now chooses to stand and point to his shirt’s anti-racism statement on the sleeve.

Marcos Alonso stated after Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, “I just like to do it this way.”

“It’s how I do things,” Alonso explained. “I believe there is another option. And I believe it is losing some strength in the opposite direction. So I’d rather do it this way to indicate that I totally support the battle against racism.”

“I am completely opposed to racism and all forms of prejudice,” he continued. I just like to place my finger on the ‘No to Racism’ badge, as is done in several other sports and football in other countries. I prefer to do it this way, and to state unequivocally that I am opposed to racism and that I respect everyone.”

Alonso also stated that he hasn’t spoken with his teammates about his new position since he doesn’t believe it is necessary.

In this regard, the Spaniard continued, “We haven’t talked about it.” We’re in the locker room, and we’re all like family. Everyone with whom I interact gets along swimmingly. I adore everyone, and we haven’t talked about it yet.

“I don’t believe there is a need, but if I do have to speak with someone, I’ll tell them the same thing I just told you, and I don’t believe there will be any issues. For the time being, I’d rather point to the sleeve, and that’s exactly what I’ll do.”
