Rivers: Battle may not be over, Fubara not Sowore – Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, a former legislator, has welcomed the reconciliation attempts between suspended Rivers State Governor Similayi Fubara and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, as “excellent news.”

However, Sani hinted that the underlying political battle in Rivers State might not be entirely over, despite the current truce.

He did, however, strongly argue that peace should be allowed to return to the state, which has been embroiled in a protracted political crisis.

The announcement of the reconciliation came after President Bola Tinubu successfully brought together the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Governor Fubara, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

National Daily Newspaper reports that the deep-seated crisis was resolved when President Tinubu met with the aggrieved parties late last night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

However, in a post on his X account on Friday, Sani suggested that the resolution might not sit well with everyone involved. He stated that the people who fought fiercely for Fubara might not be happy with the reconciliation and could wish for him to continue the political struggle.

According to Sani: “The reconciliation efforts in Rivers is good news. Peace needs to return to the state and Fubara needs to return to his seat as soon as possible.” He continued, drawing a comparison: “I know that those who fought for Fubara are not happy and wants him to continue fighting. Fubara is Sim and not Comrade Sowore. The battle may not be over but let peace return to Rivers for now.”

This statement underscores the fragile nature of political truces and the potential for lingering discontent among factions in highly charged political environments.
