Rufai Oseni analyzes implications of Gov. Wike’s 100,000 special assistants recruitment
A prominent Nigerian journalist, Rufai Oseni, has analyzed the implications of Governor Nyesom Wike’s decision to employ 100,000 special assistants towards the end of his tenure in Rivers State. Speaking on VOP, Oseni questioned the reasons behind the move and its consequences for the state coffers.
Addressing the topic, Oseni said, “I wonder what this move will cost the state.” I think the payment of these 100,000 special assistants will be unsustainable when Wike leaves the seat. A political game is being played at the expense of the people in Rivers State. The state boasts one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.
He continued, “Governor Wike sits on so many resources, but what can he do for his people?” He will say that he has done infrastructural projects, but I wonder how he has improved the lives of his people. We can not continue to let governors think that they have all the powers in the world. This is why elections matter. We should be careful because everything has an expiration date.
