Rufai reacts to Tinubu’s fuel subsidy removal plan
A prominent Nigerian journalist, Rufai Oseni, has spoken concerning the plan by the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, to remove the fuel subsidy in the country if he becomes president. Oseni raised vital questions regarding Tinubu’s plan during his interview on VOP.
The interviewer said, “Tinubu also said that he would remove fuel subsidies if elected, and he will grow Nigeria’s gross domestic product to double digits.” According to him, it can only be achieved through uninterrupted electricity.
Addressing the topic, Rufai said, “I wonder how he will increase electricity when there is no cost-reflective tariff and the big investors are not coming in.” I learned that during the electricity privatization process, they went abroad to meet with the big electricity companies. However, they refused to come in due to the business climate in the country. I wonder how such factors can be changed.
