In a decisive operation aimed at safeguarding lives and property, operatives of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Epe Command, have apprehended a man suspected of criminal activities while disguising as a mentally unstable individual.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Godwin from Ughelli Local Government Area in Delta State, was arrested following several weeks of covert monitoring by security agents.
His suspicious conduct had raised alarms among local residents in the Epe community, culminating in a collaborative intelligence effort that led to his capture.
Mr. Godwin had been frequently seen loitering around an abandoned security post located near the T-junction along Lagos Road in Epe.
Residents became increasingly wary of his odd behavior, which included inconsistent dressing patterns, early-morning clothing changes, and suspicious late-night phone calls.
These red flags prompted concerned citizens to alert the LNSC through a formal intelligence report.

According to a statement released by the LNSC, officers on routine patrol were informed by residents on May 5 that the suspect had temporarily left the area.
Acting swiftly, the officers searched the suspect’s usual hideout—a deserted structure where he often camped.
During the operation, they uncovered a stash of 27 registered SIM cards concealed inside a portion of a block wall within the abandoned facility.
“Officers were immediately dispatched, and Mr. Godwin was arrested shortly after he returned to the location,” the LNSC confirmed.
During preliminary questioning, the suspect verified his identity and place of origin but declined to reveal the whereabouts of the mobile phones associated with the SIM cards.
Adding to the intrigue, a local food vendor who had occasional interactions with Mr. Godwin expressed skepticism about his mental health claims.
She described him as often appearing mentally sound and lucid, despite his erratic lifestyle. “His behavior didn’t add up for someone who’s truly mentally ill,” she reportedly told investigators.
Authorities suspect that Mr. Godwin could be part of a broader criminal syndicate possibly involved in kidnapping or telecommunications fraud. His arrest has heightened security concerns in the area and sparked renewed calls for increased vigilance.
The LNSC commended the proactive role played by the community in bringing the matter to light, emphasizing that public awareness and timely reporting were crucial in the suspect’s apprehension.
As investigations continue, the LNSC urges residents to remain alert and to promptly report any suspicious behavior to local authorities.
