Tanker explosion in Abuja sparks panic, several people injured
A fuel tanker explosion rocked Maitama in Abuja on Monday night, injuring multiple people and triggering widespread panic along the bustling Shehu Shagari Way.
The explosion also involved passengers in a commercial vehicle, further heightening the chaos.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, while nearby hospitals were put on high alert to handle the influx of injured victims.
Early reports suggest the driver of the tanker fled after the truck tipped over, causing the explosion.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the incident.
Transportation expert, Dr. Akin Ojo, commented, “Fuel tankers pose a serious risk in densely populated areas. Regular safety checks and stricter regulations are needed to prevent these incidents, which often have devastating consequences.”
The explosion caused a major traffic gridlock, adding to the disruption in the already congested area of the federal capital.
“This shows the gaps in safety protocols and emergency response readiness,” said urban planner Ngozi Eze. “Abuja’s infrastructure is not equipped to handle such emergencies smoothly, and we need immediate action to mitigate future risks.”
