A tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded in Ibadan on Wednesday, resulting in the death of its driver and leaving one other person injured.
The incident occurred along the Iwo Road Expressway, near Fijabi House, Agbowo, Ojoo, in the early hours of the morning.
Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, confirmed the explosion in a statement to the press.
According to Akinyinka, the tanker lost control, collided with two other trucks, and eventually somersaulted into a nearby pit before bursting into flames.
“The driver was burnt to death, and the motor boy was injured,” Akinyinka stated. “The motor boy was rescued alive and rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan for treatment.”
The Oyo State Fire Services received an emergency call at exactly 2:45 a.m. reporting the fire.
Personnel were swiftly deployed to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residential areas.
“Upon arrival, we found three trucks about 20 meters apart, all involved in the fire incident.
