In a renewed push to rid Lagos of criminal elements and restore public order, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit on Thursday launched a sweeping enforcement operation across Victoria Island and its environs, arresting 49 suspects linked to various crimes and environmental infractions.

The operation, spearheaded by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, began in the early hours of the day around 1:00 a.m., targeting notorious black spots and criminal enclaves identified through security intelligence and public complaints.

Areas covered during the coordinated raid included Maroko Sandfill, Bonny Camp, and adjoining communities in Victoria Island, long reported to be havens for street urchins, pickpockets, hooligans, and other criminal operatives.

According to a statement issued by Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Taskforce, a total of 48 male suspects and one female were apprehended during the exercise. The suspects have since been charged to court in accordance with the laws of Lagos State.

CSP Akerele, while speaking on the outcome of the operation, reaffirmed the Taskforce’s determination to maintain law and order across the state.

“Those who choose to undermine the peace and security of our communities must desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law,” he said. “We will not relent in our efforts to ensure a safer and cleaner Lagos.”

He revealed that the agency has adopted a new strategy of conducting at least three routine enforcement operations weekly, focusing on known criminal hotspots, illegal structures, and unauthorized settlements.

“Our operations are intelligence-led and resident-driven. We are acting on credible information and public complaints to systematically dismantle these illegal structures and hideouts,” Akerele added.

The Lagos State Taskforce reiterated its commitment to building a secure, serene, and habitable environment for all residents. Authorities also urged community members to continue reporting suspicious activities, emphasizing that the fight against crime and disorder requires collective action.

The latest enforcement marks another milestone in the government’s broader agenda to sanitize Lagos neighborhoods, deter criminal behavior, and uphold environmental and public safety standards.
