Tension in Ogun as herdsmen write communities, threaten attack; Police assures of safety
There is rising tension in Ogun State after herdsmen wrote certain communities threatening to attack the residents.
The letters were said to be written in English and Hausa languages to residents of Asa, Agbon, Ibeku and Oja-Odan communities in Yewa-North Local Government Area (LGA), Ogun State.
The threat letters were also said to be pasted on a few walls in the communities, causing panic in the residents, such that some were said to be thinking of vacating their ancestral homes and relocate to other communities.
The herdsmen, in the letter, threatened residents with planned attack between December 2022 and January 2023.
The letter read: “Attention! Attention!! Attention!! to all following communities; Asa, Agbon, lbeku, Oja-odan and its environs.
“You think you can send away our people from the land they bought in Nigeria, our fatherland. You kill our people, you kill their cows, you take over all their properties, you think you can go scot-free. It’s high time we came for revenge.
“All the above-mentioned communities’ leaders should prepare for the war between December and January. We are coming to take back our fathers’ properties.”
The Ogun State Police Command, was said to have confirmed the threat letter on Monday. The command, however, assured residents of adequate protection.
