This one club still has 15 players in the World Cup round of 16
Barcelona have a record 15 players at the Women’s World Cup in France and every one has qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament. Spain have 10 Barcelona Femeni players in their squad, and they qualified in second place in Group B behind winners Germany.
La Roja opened up with a 3-1 win over South Africa, lost narrowly to Germany in their second game and then drew 0-0 with China in their final fixture. However, their involvement may not last too much longer. The team go on to play defending champions and hot favourites USA in the last 16.
Netherlands have two Barca players in their squad, Lieke Martens and Stefanie van der Gragt. The Dutch side topped Group E with three wins from three and go on to play Japan in the knockout phase. Martens has caught the eye at the tournament so far with her skilful play. Andressa Alves’s Brazil squeaked through a tough group in third place behind Italy and Australia. They beat an impressive Italy team 1-0 in their final group game to progress to a last 16 tie against hosts France.
Toni Duggan’s England found it easier going as they topped Group D with a 100 per cent record. The striker’s only appearance so far came in their win over Japan, but she will be hoping to play her part for Phil Neville’s side as they go on to face Cameroon. And finally, Asisat Oshoala’s Nigeria side also remain in the competition. The 24-year-old scored a fine goal against South Korea, as her team finished third in Group A behind France and Norway.
Nigeria still qualify, as one of the best third-placed teams, but now face a tough task against Germany in the next round.
