Tinubu will win back Lagos in 2027, Sunday Dare declares
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will regain Lagos State in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi no longer poses a significant political threat to the administration.
Dare made the remarks during an appearance on the Mic On Podcast, where he dismissed suggestions that Obi remains a formidable challenger to President Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
According to the presidential aide, the Tinubu administration is banking on its achievements over the past three years rather than political calculations, arguing that its policy reforms and governance initiatives have strengthened public confidence across the country.
“This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare to our government. Maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, he is no threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance,” Dare said.
He maintained that the administration has focused on addressing Nigeria’s long-standing economic and governance challenges through far-reaching reforms, adding that the government now has tangible achievements to present to Nigerians.

“We have been able to interrogate the problems of this country. Decisions are being taken, policies are being unfolded across the country, and we have a scorecard to show,” he stated.
Dare also criticised Obi’s public engagements, claiming that the former Anambra State governor often fails to provide direct answers to questions during interviews.
According to him, many of Obi’s public appearances leave audiences confused because of what he described as lengthy and indirect responses to national issues.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, Dare expressed optimism that President Tinubu would reverse the outcome of the 2023 presidential poll in Lagos State, where Obi secured an upset victory over the then All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
“Peter Obi defeated President Tinubu in Lagos in 2023. This is 2027; he can’t defeat Tinubu again in Lagos,” he asserted.
The presidential spokesman argued that the administration’s performance in office would be the determining factor in the next election, expressing confidence that voters would reward Tinubu with renewed support based on his government’s record.
President Tinubu lost Lagos, his political stronghold, to Obi during the 2023 presidential election, a result widely regarded as one of the biggest surprises of the poll.
Dare, however, insisted that the political dynamics have changed and that the President is well-positioned to reclaim the state in the 2027 presidential contest.
