Troops rescue 10 abducted NECO candidates, teachers in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have rescued 10 National Examinations Council (NECO) candidates and teachers who were abducted by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an attack on a secondary school in Borno State.

The attack occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the Technical Secondary School in Lassa Community, Askira/Uba Local Government Area, while students were writing their NECO examination.

According to security sources, the insurgents stormed the school, disrupting the examination and abducting several candidates and teachers before fleeing into the surrounding bush.

Following the incident, troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched a coordinated rescue operation in the area.

Intelligence sources disclosed that the military operation led to the successful rescue of 10 of the abducted victims, who were recovered safely from the terrorists.

Security sources said troops have continued clearance and search operations in the area to locate and rescue any remaining victims still in captivity.

The latest rescue underscores the ongoing security challenges facing communities in parts of Borno State, where insurgent groups continue to target civilians despite sustained military offensives aimed at degrading their operational capabilities.

Authorities have yet to disclose the exact number of people initially abducted, while efforts to account for all the victims and secure the area remain ongoing.
