Trump claims US-Iran peace deal imminent, says Strait of Hormuz will reopen
United States President, Donald Trump, has announced that a peace agreement between Washington and Tehran is expected to be signed today, a development he said would immediately lead to the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to international maritime traffic.
Trump made the declaration on his Truth Social platform, expressing confidence that the long-awaited agreement would mark a major breakthrough in relations between the two countries after months of heightened tensions and military confrontations.
According to the US President, the signing of the agreement would result in the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes through which a significant portion of global oil and gas exports passes.
“The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL,” Trump wrote.
Trump further asserted that his administration had succeeded in establishing a more productive relationship with Iran than previous US governments.
“Our relationship with Iran is a much different and better one than previous Administrations have had,” he stated.
The announcement comes as Trump marks his 80th birthday and prepares to attend the upcoming G7 summit in France, where discussions on Middle East security, global energy supplies, and the Iran crisis are expected to feature prominently.
Despite Trump’s optimism, Iranian officials appeared less certain about the status of the proposed agreement.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, cautioned against premature declarations, stressing that Tehran remained wary because of what it described as unpredictability from the American side.
“Due to the other party’s instability, we must be cautious about any statements regarding this process,” Baghaei said.
His comments suggest that while negotiations may have advanced significantly, Tehran is not yet ready to publicly confirm that a final agreement has been reached.
Diplomatic sources indicate that the proposed accord could establish a 60-day ceasefire period, creating a framework for broader negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security issues.
The agreement is also expected to address the future of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, with discussions reportedly focusing on mechanisms for removing, monitoring, or destroying the material as part of confidence-building measures between both countries.
The negotiations follow months of military tensions involving the United States and Iran, including confrontations at sea and concerns over regional stability
If the new agreement is finalised, Washington is expected to consider lifting restrictions on Iranian ports and easing some economic sanctions imposed on Tehran.
Reports have also suggested that billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets could be released as part of a broader settlement package designed to support economic recovery and encourage compliance with the agreement.
However, Trump rejected reports circulated by Iranian media claiming that the United States had agreed to provide approximately £224 billion for Iran’s reconstruction efforts.
According to the US President, no such financial commitment forms part of the proposed deal.
At the centre of the negotiations is the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but strategically vital waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to global shipping lanes.
The route is regarded as one of the most important energy corridors in the world, with a substantial share of international oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passing through it daily.
Since the escalation of hostilities between Washington and Tehran, reports have indicated that Iran restricted movement through the waterway and deployed naval mines, raising fears of major disruptions to global energy markets and international trade.
