UNILORIN Alumni disowns suspended president
The University of Ilorin Alumni Association on Tuesday dissociated itself from a letter on ‘Election of Convocation Representative to the Council’, purportedly written by its suspended President, Dr Stephen Fasakin.
A statement jointly signed by Dr Musa Abdullah and Mr Ibrahim Atanda, Acting National President and Acting National General Secretary of the association respectively, dissociated itself from the letter.
The statement was addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, a copy was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.
“We refer to the letter on the above subject dated March 18, 2021, and addressed to your office by one Dr Stephen Fasakin.
“We write to inform you that the author of the letter on the above subject matter did not have the power to write such a letter having been duly suspended as the President of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association.
“Not only that, the letter was written by him without the knowledge and authority of the National Executive Committee.”
The association noted that the procedure for convening and holding the convocation held at the auditorium on March 19, 2021, was in line with the provisions of the institution’s Act, and was duly complied with by the vice-chancellor.
“The entire members of the UNILORIN Alumni wish to commend you for giving us the enabling environment to conduct the election of a representative of Convocation to the Governing Council.
“Apart from the fact that the election was free and fair, it was equally rancour-free with impressive attendance.
“We congratulate you on this achievement and assure you of our unalloyed support in steering the ship of our great university,” the statement said.
