When NDA & Prisons were attacked, nobody was sacked – Shehu Sani
Nigerians were surprised by the attack carried out by the ISWAP on the Kuje prison, where more than 60 BokoHaram suspects have been detained. This surprise is coming because the how the attack was swift and coordinates without the knowledge of the security agencies.
Due to this, Nigerians have been blaming the attack on the ineptitude of the security agencies and the government.
“When the Nigerian Defence Academy was attacked, nobody was sacked and nobody resigned. The same happened in all the attacks on the prisons; The heads of these institutions are tragically rewarded with an extension of tenure.”
Terrorists attacked passenger trains on two different occasions and took hostages. None of the officials responsible for passenger safety resigned. How can you have two repeated incidents of terrorist attacks on train passengers that resulted in fatalities and no one was held accountable for it?
An estimated 600 inmates have escaped during the latest attack on kuje prison. Our prisons have been attacked again and again by outlaws to free notorious criminals, and no one was punished for the security failures. If there are no consequences for security failures, the outlaws will continue to have the upper hand. Hundreds of notorious criminals have escaped as a result of these attacks on prisons across the country. Instead of taking responsibility, our public officials always issue wishy-washy press statements that seek to play down the gravity of the issue.
According to a House of Reps member from Borno State, over N570 billion was allocated alone in the 2022 budget. Don’t Nigerians deserve commensurate results? State governments like Zamfara are now so frustrated that they are now asking their people to apply for licenses to buy weapons to defend themselves. Bandits operate in broad daylight for hours unchallenged. The besieged communities are now paying taxes to bandits because they have been abandoned to their fate. It’s impossible to expect optimism from citizens whose situation is getting worse rather than better.
