Wike warns against recruitment of thugs for 2023 elections
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in a broadcast in Port Harcourt, cautioned politicians in the state to desist from recruitment of thugs for the 2023 general elections. The governor disclosed that the state government has received an intelligence report that politicians in Rivers State have are already recruiting cultists and ex-convicts as political thugs to cause mayhem before and during the 2023 general elections.
Governor Wike stated that intelligence revealed that politicians are holding meetings for the recruitment in hotels and entertainment centres around Rivers State.
Governor Wike, accordingly, cautioned that his administration will not permit any politician, irrespective of his past or present status or political leaning, to scuttle the relative peace the security agencies have struggled to maintain in Rivers State. He declared that drastic actions would be taken against accomplices of the criminal plot, warning that his administration will “pull down any hotel or entertainment centres where such gatherings are held”.
The governor urged residents of Rivers State to be vigilant, expressing his thanks for their support of his administration since 2015.
The Governor said that the security agencies have been informed to track the politicians who may be involved recruiting thugs for elections.
