WIMA Nigeria lauds Hadiza on UN appointment

The Nigerian chapter of African Women in Maritime (WIMAFRICA) has congratulated the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms. Hadiza Bala-Usman on her election as the Vice Chairperson, United Nations Maritime Agency Committee (UNMAC).
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the association, Mrs. Carol Ufere recently.
The association expressed joy over the feat accomplished by the Managing Director and prayed for continuous achievements for her in future.
UNMAC is the agency responsible for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of pollution by ships.
Bala Usman was formally elected and inaugurated at the end of the week-long 43rd session of the FAL Committee in London, recently.
Usman who was elected after receiving unanimous votes, will serve for a one-year period starting from 2019 up till 2020.
The NPA Managing Director is also vice president, African region, of the International Association of Harbour and Ports (IAPH).
African Women in Maritime is a continental body of women in the maritime Industry, a non-profit organization designed to answer the call for gender equality, women empowerment as well as project entrepreneurship development of African women in the maritime sector.
