Windows 10 begins expiration warning updates
Windows 10 users will from now get notifications from Microsoft to alert them if their operating system build is nearing expiration, according to Windows Latest.
The company had previously displayed notifications warning of OS build expiry on older versions of its operating system, but it has now begun alerting Windows 10 users if they are using an outdated version of the software.
Starting with Windows 10 April 2018 update, which is expected to go dark later in 2019, Microsoft will alert users that they must update to a newer release in order to continue to get new features and security improvements.
These alerts ask users to update to a newer release of the operating system to continue receiving security updates and new features.
A windows version does not receive updates and security patches when it reaches the end of support.
“You’re currently running a version of Windows that’s nearing the end of support. We recommend you update to the most recent version of Windows 10 now to get the latest features and security improvements”, the notification states.
Typically, Microsoft displays expiration notifications on older versions like Windows 7, but the same approach has yet to be used as far as Windows 10 is concerned.
Analysts say for beginners who rarely visit the Windows update, the likelihood of them noticing is low.
