Yobe flood cuts Off seven LGAs from State Capital
Heavy flooding has severed access to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, from seven local government areas (LGAs).
The floodwaters, originating from the overflowing Jama’are River in Bauchi State, have rendered the Potiskum-Gashua federal road impassable.
The affected LGAs include Jakusko, Bade, Karasuwa, Nguru, Yusufari, and Machina.
Residents are forced to take alternative routes, such as the poorly-maintained Bayamari-Dapchi road or the Hadejia road in neighboring Jigawa State, significantly extending travel times.
According to Channels Television, Nangere Local Government Chairman Samaila Musa visited the flooded area and expressed concerns about the economic impact.
“This disruption significantly affects movement to farms and markets, particularly those bringing livestock to the Potiskum market,” he stated.

“I will be meeting with the Deputy Governor to discuss the situation.”
This incident comes after the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) recently identified flood-prone areas following the collapse of bridges along major highways and increased water flow towards communities bordering the Jama’are and Komodugu rivers.
The state government is likely to be facing growing pressure to address the flooding and its consequences.
