2 missing as Tiv militia attacks Fulani community

Two men have been declared missing after gunmen alleged to be Tiv militia attacked a Fulani community, Kadarko community, in Keana local government area of Nasarawa on Sunday.

The incident was said to have led to the death of 73 cows.

Muhammed Hussaini, the Nasarawa state chairman of Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, told newsmen that the gunmen stormed Kadarko, a border village between Benue and Nasarawa states in the early hours of yesterday armed to the teeth and shooting sporadically, killing the 73 cows, injuring many others.

Hussaini said that MACBAN had called on all the affected herders to remain calm as government and security operatives were working to ensure that the perpetrators faced the full wrath of the law.

However, Idrisu Kennedy, the state police spokesman said some gunmen had attacked Kadarko and opened fire on Fulani herders and killed 73 cows.

He said there was no loss of live in the attack, and that of six people who got missing, four were seen but two other Fulani herders were still missing.

Kennedy said that the state commissioner of police CP Bello Ahmed personally visited the area. “As I am talking to you we are still on our way from the place where the incident happened,” he said.

Some aggrieved Fulani youths evacuated scores of the dead cows and brought them to the Emir of Lafia palace for the monarch to see the handiwork of the militia.
