Jonathan’s ADC sues EFCC, asks for N100m damages

Aide de Camp (ADC) to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Col Ojogbane Adegbe has sued the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his alleged detention.

Adegbe, in a suit filed by his counsel, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, at the Federal High Court, is claiming N100 million damages for his detention, insisting it violated his fundamental rights.

He prayed the court to declare that his client’s arrest and continued detention by EFCC since February 11, was unconstitutional and violated his right to personal liberty guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.

Onoja prayed the court to order EFCC to immediately release the applicant from unlawful detention.

The arrest and detention of Adegbe by EFCC, Onoja argued violated his right to personal liberty and freedom of movement guaranteed by Section 35 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution.

He also said the EFCC’s action violated Articles 5,6 and 12 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

The court has fixed February 26 for hearing of the case.‎
