Police boss takes hard measures against SARS, others
With immediate effect, the federal, zonal and command special forces of the Nigerian police will no longer carry out routine ops like patrol, stop and search, checkpoints, and others.
Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, in a statement by Force PRO Frank Mba, gave the order restraining, F-SARS, the Special Tactical Squad, the Intelligence Response Team, and the Anti-Cultism Squad.
This was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Sunday.
“In addition, no personnel of the Force is authorised to embark on patrols or tactical assignments in mufti. They must always appear in their police uniforms or approved tactical gear,” the IGP said in the statement.
“The IGP has equally warned, that henceforth, the Commissioner of Police in charge of FSARS, Commissioners of Police in charge of State Commands and the FCT as well as their supervisory Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police, will be held liable for any misconduct within their Area of Responsibility.”
The order followed a widespread protest against police brutality after some SARS operatives allegedly killed a man in Ughelli, Delta.
