AFIT matriculates 1,136 students, warns against antisocial activities
The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), on Tuesday in Kaduna, matriculated 1,136 students for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The National Daily reports that 968 of the students were absorbed for degree programmes and 168 for diploma courses.
The Commandant of AFIT, AVM Musbau Olatunji, warned the students against cultism, hooliganism, examination malpractice and all forms of anti-social behaviours.
He noted that the mandate of AFIT was to produce knowledgeable and innovative Nigerians worthy in character and learning through effective teaching and research for the technological advancement of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the country in general.
Olatunji assured the students of their safety while on campus, and urged them to be of good conduct and report suspicious activities to appropriate authorities in the institute.
Earlier, The Air Officer Commanding, NAF Air Training Command, AVM Jackson Yusuf, urged the students to work hard and inculcate good character and behaviour for a brighter future.
Yusuf commended AFIT’s thoroughness in academics and discipline, assuring the institution of necessary support needed for the students to add value to NAF and the country.
Also, the Provost of AFIT, Prof. Mohammed Dauda said AFIT is the only polytechnic in the country that runs degree and diploma programmes concurrently.
“It is an institution that places emphasis on theory, research, practical and technical knowledge which in turn produces world class scholars.
“We pride ourselves in the fact that all students who are privileged to pass through this citadel of knowledge will be truly globally competitive graduates”, he said.
Dauda urged the students to take advantage of the privilege of being in the institute by studying hard in order to graduate with their peers.
He said that the institution’s academic calendar would not be disrupted by strikes, as such “this will help you to plan your life after school as you are certain of your graduation year.”
The provost, however, cautioned the students against indiscipline, recalcitrant behaviour, truancy, cultism and exam malpractice.
He also cautioned parents and guardians of the students not to compromise lecturers and other staff or encourage any wayward behaviour in their children.
“The best you should do is encourage your children and wards to abide by the rules and regulations while studying hard to make good grades”, Dauda said.
